Proxy Configuration for Internet Explorer 5.x on Windows 95/98/NT

1. Select Internet Explorer Options
   1. Start Internet Explorer if it isn't already running.
   2. Click the Tools choice in the menubar to drop down the menu.
   3. Click Internet Options... to bring up the Internet Options dialog box.
2. Turn On Proxy
   1. Click the Connections tab.
   2. Internet Explorer requires slightly different setup depending on how you connect to your ISP:
      • For dial-up ISPs you will need to set your proxy configuration by selecting the Dial-up Setting that you wish to configure and clicking Settings....
      • For a LAN ISP that uses a cable modem or DSL service, click on LAN Settings....
   3. Click Use automatic configuration script in the Automatic Configuration dialog box.
   4. In the box labeled Configuration location (URL):, enter the url for your library proxy server.
   5. Click OK.
3. Proxy Authentication
   1. Internet Explorer is now configured to use the Library Proxy Service for domain restricted Library resources and services.
   2. You will be prompted to authenticate in the Enter Network Password dialog box the first time that you request a domain restricted Library resource or service.
   3. For User Name: enter your .
   4. For Password: enter your last name.
   5. Click OK.
4. Turning Proxying Off
   • You shouldn't need to turn proxying off.
   • The proxy service will only be used for domain restricted Library resources and services.
   • All other browser transactions will occur normally.
   • If you need to turn proxying off for any reason, simply return to the Automatic Configuration dialog as described above. Clear the contents of the Address: box, un-click the check box labelled Use automatic configuration script, and click OK.
